United Nations calls for “urgent” reform

The United Nations calls for “urgent” reform to shield women and children from violence during custody battles. The article states that the UN Human Rights Council notes, “when custody decisions are made in favor of the parent who claims to be alienated without sufficiently considering the views of the child…the child may continue to be exposed to lasting harm.” The UN Human Rights Council warns that the problem, in part, is due to increased barriers in accessing justice as well as stereotypes created in the judicial process. The Council calls Parental Alienation a “pseudo concept” and warns that “the protection of women and children from violence, a victim-centered approach must take precedence over all other criteria.”
